Circle elevators

When I went to the fortress in Bard I had to take one of these circle shaped things up to the fortress and back down to the car. I had to take three of them. It had a really good view. You could see houses, restaurants, hotels, anything you can think of really.

Fenis Castle

At Fenis Castle we got a tour of the castle rooms. It was from the 13th century. I saw wooden furniture, huge fireplaces, and paintings on the wall called frescoes. I went in a fireplace and looked up where the smoke went out in a hole in the roof. The tour guide did the tour in Italian and the only word I understood was drago (dragon).

Finding frog tiles

In Vercelli, me and my dad went looking for frogs. The frog tiles mark special places. There are 20 special places where frogs are supposed to be. When we got to the first place we looked on the side walk and found the frog. The second place we looked on the sidewalk a while and then we went to the other side of the road and found the frog. The third frog was right in front of the museum that it was marking. We got so excited and then we went to the fourth frog and couldn't find it. We went to the fifth no frog. Sixth no frog. And then we started to think they didn't put any more frogs. We went to all the ones we wanted to and then went where Momma was and looked for the frog there. And we couldn't find it.

The theater

This is a Roman theater. People do acts like plays and performances. Red and Green Monster are doing a performance. I saw where the people sat and it was very close so they could see and hear the people acting. Next to the old theater there was a new theater.

Above the ceiling

Today I went up in the ceiling of this church and saw stories made out of frescoes. Someone came along and built a ceiling under the first one. You can't see the frescoes from the church floor. You have to go up stairs in the wall. The stairs were slanted down and they were narrow and spiraled.

Look out for Lombards!

We are in castelseprio. Castelsepio is a fortres from 1500 years ago. It was used by the Romans and the Lombards and then by churches from the middle ages through the Renaissance and then the people who dug it up and tourists. These are both pictures of the wall. They reused Roman blocks and roof tiles to fill the cracks.

The baptistry with a face

This is a baptistry in Agliate a tiny tiny town. A baptistry usually has 8 sides. There is a big pool in the middle and they baptize you in there. Can you find the face?

Duomo Vecchio

In Brescia, I went in this old church. It was 1,000 years old. I thought it was cool to see. There were big arches in front of where people sat. You have to go down two staircases and it's a lot of steps to get to where people sit.

Adriatic Sea

In Grado, I touched the Adriatic Sea. I also found a shell. People come here to sit on the rocks in the sun's warmth. There is a small beach. I saw a city across the water. We thought it was Trieste. Ciao.

Crazy animal mosaics!

On the floor of the church in Aquileia there were animals like squid, octopus, snails, and sea monsters. There was a turtle and a rooster saying something to each other.

Foster as a column

I am in Aquileia in the excavations under a church. We are walking on a glass floor so you can see under where you are walking. There were mosaics on the floor. This block looked like something a column would go on.

Pizza

When you order pizza in Italy you usually get your own and it's biggish. They don't cut it for you so you have to cut it yourself. The pizza is very good!

Looking at boats

I saw a lot of fancy boats called gondolas. There were some work boats passing and carrying stuff. I saw somebody standing on a boat taking a picture of the bridge.

Looking at masks

There were a lot of masks for sale. People were dressing in costumes for Carnivale. My favorite mask is a ram.

On the water taxi (vaporetto)

To go to the hotel from the train station we took the water taxi. I liked looking at the buildings we were passing. It felt colder than it was because we were moving sort of fast.

Going to Venice

I took the train to Venice. Italians call It Venezia. It went 155 miles per hour. I thought it was fun to look out the window. We went through a lot of tunnels. There was stuff I'd never seen like the Italian countryside.
